As one of the leading providers of health care services in the country, CommonSpirit Health has long prioritized addressing disparities in care, including maternal care and that which puts healthy pregnancies at risk. We're committed to reducing healthcare disparities and improving culturally competent care for moms and infants.
As part of the White House’s first Maternal Health Day of Action, CommonSpirit joined with the administration to promote equitable maternal care through personalized patient navigation programs and the development and implementation of standardized treatment protocols for hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.
As part of the White House event, CommonSpirit announced the expansion of its text-based patient navigation program with Docent Health, through which expectant mothers have the option to be paired with virtual care navigators for personalized care and guidance. In 2022, the program will expand to the Pacific Northwest, the Southeast and the Midwest.
In addition, CommonSpirit will launch in 2022 a new set of protocols, developed in partnership with the Morehouse School of Medicine, to address hypertension disorders in pregnancy at several CommonSpirit Hospitals, starting in Tennessee, Washington, California and Kentucky. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the U.S., and affect up to 10 percent of pregnancies with Black women having twice the incidence versus White women.
