On behalf of CommonSpirit Health, Merry Christmas! The season of joy is here!
A central part of the Christmas story is God becoming human: “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14). The all powerful, everpresent, limitless Being, greater than all creation, is made into a small fragile creature with all the limitations of a mortal life. The incomprehensible becomes boring. The indescribable becomes mundane. The extraordinary becomes everyday.
It is not always easy to see God in the everyday. We are drawn to the exceptional, the amazing, and still God is just as present in our regular, trivial experiences. Take time during Christmas to find the healing presence of God in small places:
In the middle of the busyness, scrambling, and travel, it can be easy to overlook the wonder just waiting to be found in everyday things. The path of least resistance may be to rush through to finish the holidays as quickly as possible.
Christmas calls us to go a bit slower, to rest, and find God in the regular joys of daily life.
Each day during the holiday season, find one thing that brings you joy, no matter how small it is. Once you discover it, pause and be present with that joy. Even if for only a moment, that joy reminds us of the love God has for us.
The birth of Jesus shows us that God is with us, in our midst, wherever we go! Each day, find God in the everyday things you encounter.
